This book recommendation is about the book ELIJAH OF BUXTON. Elijah, is the first child born into freedom in Buxton, Canada, a settlement of runaway slaves just over the border from Detroit. Elijah is best known in his hometown as the boy who threw up on Frederick Douglass. (Not on purpose, of course — he was just a baby then!)
But things change when a former slave calling himself the Right Reverend Zephariah W. Connerly the Third steals money from Elijah's friend Mr. Leroy, who has been saving to buy his family out of captivity in the south. Elijah joins Mr. Leroy on a dangerous journey to America in pursuit of the disreputable preacher, and he discovers firsthand the unimaginable horrors of the life his parents fled — a life from which he'll always be free, if he can find the courage to go back home.
Exciting, yet evocative, heart-wrenching, yet hilarious, Elijah of Buxton is Christopher Paul Curtis at his very best — and it's an unforgettable testament to the power of hope.

This book is about a boy who lives in Montgomery, Alabama who has to sit in the back of the bus. This boy has a special marble but when he is playing with it on the bus a dark hand reaches out and grabs it! But it’s just Mrs. Parks from the tailor shop. At the bus stop Mrs. Parks goes up to the front and sits. A man asks her to move but she would not. So she got arrested! Rosa Parks was the boy's best friend. -B. Smith
This book recommendation is about “Rules of the Road.” This book is about a 16 year old girl named Jenna who doesn’t get noticed very much. She works at a shoe company called Gladstone’s. Her parents are divorced and her sister Faith and she live with their mom since the dad is involved with alcohol.
One day Jenna’s boss calls and wants Jenna to drive a round trip to see all the Gladstone’s shoe factories before her boss gives the business to her son. Mrs. Gladstone’s son Elden doesn’t want to keep the business. Jenna meets a man named Harry Bender on the trip and he teaches her many things about not only being a good shoes salesman but also being a good person.
One night Harry Bender gets killed by a drunk driver and Jenna and her boss are devastated. Jenna is thinking about one thing and one thing only. That it could have been her father. Jenna is just trying to get back home in one piece. Can she do it? This is a good book about two people who come together and want to make a difference in not only a company but a life.
